Some of the highlights of our trip were: sleeping in our warm sleeping bags, raising and lowering the dory, the night watch and washing the dishes in the WARM water because it relieved our cold hands. The nightwatch was a challenge because it was one of the COLDEST nights of our lives. (Temperatures dropped below 20 degrees and the wind was VERY strong.) |
The Bosun crew will tell you a little bit about our experience, on the C.A. Thayer. Some of our highlights were pulling and going up in the Bosun chair, eating, sleeping and hanging out in the forcastle. Some of our lo-lights were nightwatch and scrubbing the deck. If we could change one thing on the C.A. Thayer, it would be nightwatch. The best part of the voyage was getting to sleep. Looking back on our experience onthe C.A. Thayer, we feel good because we survived the trip. By: Adam (mate), Scott, Shayan and Larry |

On our voyage on the C.A. Thayer, we had some hi-lights, like scrubbing the deck, going to bed, ringing the bell and finishing our tasks. Even though we had a good time, we had some lo-lighs to. For example, working with Mr. Watts (the first mate) and seeing Mrs. Sanchez cry. If we could change a part of the voyage, It would be working with the captain instead of Mr.Watts. The best part of the voyage was when we were scrubbing the deck because it kept our hands warm. Looking back on the C.A. Thayer, we feel great because we made it through the cold night. Comment~We thank Mrs.Sanchez for supporting us and helping us make this voyage come true. |
We were fortunate to work around the warmth of the galley. Cutting vegetables and cooking in general were some of the highlights of our voyage. We enjoyed our co-workers Roach and Peanut who made us laugh and taughts us how to cook for 40 people. Rinsing and scrubbing dishes after the water cooled and getting little sleep were bummers! If we could change one thing about our voyage it would be the temperature of the evening. The best part of the voyage was demanding that Mrs. Sanchez give us a pizza, movie and popcorn party, but we negotiated 15 minutes of free time instead. The best part of our field trip aboard the CA Thayer was going up in the Bosun's chair. Another fun activity was working with a nice, kind captain. The cornbread and breakfast were really good. After a long cold nightwatch it felt so good to get to lie in bed even if only for a little while. One of the lo-lights of the voyage was the first mate, Mr. Watts. She (yes, she) was not exactly kind. My crew also thought that there should have been a head (bathroom) on the ship, and would have preferred the boat to actually have moved! If we could chang one part of the voyage, it would be not having to do so much work! The best part of the voyage was going up in the Bosun's chair. Looking back on our trip, we saw some definate low and high-lights, but overall it was really fun. It was a great experience as a sailor and we all wish to do it again sometime. |
