Parent Volunteers - many opportunities in and outside of classroom exist - Parents are always welcome! Parent work afternoons - the first Monday of every month (1:30 - 4:00pm). Each family is encouraged to participate in at least one Monday a year. See sign-up sheet in class or call Serena for further opportuinities.

Weekly Newsletters - In Friday Folder - contains class info, weekly happenings, permission slips, volunteer requests, and upcoming events. Please return Friday Folders every Monday.

September - October Time - 8:25 - 12:00 Monday - Friday through October

Daily September - October Schedule - Example

October Lunch Bunch - each student stays several times in October from 12:00 to 1:30 (three or four students per day) This time will be used to both enjoy lunch, individualized testing , and to prepare students for upcoming transition to the longer days of Winter and Spring. Please see the schedule of our front door for your child's lunch days.

November - June Time -

Group A = 8:25 - 1:30 Monday - Wednesday and 8:25 - 12:00 Thursday - Friday.

Group B = 8:25 - 12:00 Monday - Tuesday and 8:25 - 1:30 Wednesday - Friday.

Sharing

Begins with our letter of the week program September 11th

Each child will be scheduled one day during the week

Each week help your child choose one item, enclosed in a paper bag with 3 clues written on the bag.

Items should begin with letter of the week.

Specialty Programs

Letter of the Week (A-Z) Begins September ______ - practice papers every Friday

Child of the Week - Please sign-up for your kinders week (often combined with birthday). You and your child should prepare a display of pictures and bring in those items he/she would like to share with the class (a book, stuffed animal, pet, cooking project, activity, or game). More specific handout of suggestions given the week before.

Math Lab - Begins Wed., Sept. ______ Parent volunteers needed every Wednesday from 8:45 to 9:45am.

Life Lab Science - Life, Earth, Physical Science using the garden as a laboratory

5th Grade Buddies - a weekly shared activities program with Room 14 - Teacher: Kathy Chin

Library - schedule to be announced - Librarian - Leslie Bell

Perceptual Motor (P.E.) - Developmental gross motor activity stations every Monday morning

Spectra Art - every other week on Wednesdays 11:00 - 12:00

Learning Extensions at Home

Read Aloud Daily!

Frequently read alphabet books using the letter name / picture word / letter sound format (example: A - apple - ahh)

Read books and poetry with ryhming words - take note of ryhmes and have fun making up ryhmes

Writing and drawing - pictures, notes, grocery lists, signs, labels, reminders, cards, maybe even a journal

Play games - board games, bingo games, sport games, card games (War and Go Fish help with number identification)

Responsible library practices (book and Friday Folder return)

Share/discuss with your child - class work, newsletters, and daily events

Visit the classroom with your child in the afternoon to allow him/her to share

Seek opportunities to socialize with classmates outside of school

Good food, sleep, quiet time, responsibility, reward, and LOVE!
